Toddler

Between the ages of one and three your toddler's world is growing rapidly. This is characterized by many changes for your child. Most children learn to walk, talk, and relate to others at this stage.

Toddlers want to do things for themselves, have their own ideas about how things should

happen, and use "no" many times each day. They sometimes get frustrated because they

do not have the language skills to express themselves. Children at this stage are also

struggling with learning to become independent. These years are often called the

"terrible twos" because toddlers demand to do things their own way without help.

During the toddler years, your child's growth is steady but slower than the first year of life.

Because of this slower growth rate you will notice that his appetite has also reduced.

Toddlers, bursting with energy and ideas, need to explore their environment and consequently are always moving and physically very active. They want to be independent but always bear in mind that they are still very dependent on you. Toddlers are very concerned with their own needs and this is the reason why they do not easily share things. But, with patience, you can help him build positive self-esteem (how he feels about himself) and self-control.

Your toddler loves to experiment and explore the world around him. Giving your child a chance to explore helps him grow and learn.
