What complementary feeding equipment do I need?

Lim Yann Horng, CareLine Advisor/ Nutritionist
Complementary feeding your child can be a challenge – an exciting, messy challenge! Although you can’t do much about spaghetti on the walls or peas on the carpet, you can make things much easier for yourself by having the right complementary feeding equipment in hand. The information below should help you prepare for your child’s first complementary feeding experiences.

Equipment to help with complementary feeding

You'll probably have most of what you need in the house, but there are a few things that'll come in handy:

• A few strong plastic spoons (in a bright colour to catch your child's attention) small enough for a little mouth

• A colourful plastic bowl - preferably with a sucker on the bottom to prevent upsets!

• A few bibs and clean cloths

• A food blender/processor is invaluable for mixing child food

• Bendy ice-trays for storing child portions

• A V-shaped cushion (pregnant mums use them sometimes) ideal for propping up a child who is just beginning to wean.
