Hi, I'm Yann Horng, CareLine Advisor/ Nutritionist from Danone Dumex

A rash is a reaction of the skin, change in the skin which affects the color, appearance or texture.

It can be caused by many things, such as a drug reaction, an infection, or an allergic reaction. Many different agents can cause similar rashes because the skin has a limited number of possible responses. Very often the associated symptoms in addition to the rash help make the diagnosis, such as a history of environmental exposures, tick bites, exposure to other ill children or adults, recent antibiotic use, or prior immunizations.

The following medical conditions are some of the possible causes of skin rash, e.g. scabies, allergy, contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, fungal infection, skin contact with an irritant, irritation due to abrasives and eczema.

Most rashes caused by viruses do not harm your child and go away over time without any treatment. However, some childhood rashes have serious or even life-threatening causes. Parents should be familiar with these rashes. Many rashes can look the same, making it difficult to know the exact diagnosis.

There are likely to be other possible causes, so whenever you have a concern, see your doctor immediately.

Hey Eunice, just my advice here..if the rashes continue to develop then the cause is not seafood..but mind you it's still not advisable to give seafood to an 11 month old baby. Try to narrow down the list of anything new for the baby. It can even be the water or the bottle that the she has been drinking from.

As for the Pureen products, if she has been using it for a long time before the rashes started for example maybe since birth without any problems then its probably not the cause of the rashes.

I notice you keep mentioning "when she is crawling" so maybe the floor surface at her home is not suitable for her skin? For example, carpet surface may be irritable to young babies.

You didn't mention where the rashes first start to appear? My son also had rashes and spread until his whole body when he was younger..I brought him to a paediatrician and the doctor said he has eczema because his rashes develop at the body joints like the neck, behind the knee, elbow and others.

The doctor suggested using soap for sensitive skin like sebamed..its quite expensive but no choice. The doctor gave a lotion which I find useful..Balneum lotion..I think you can get from any pharmacy..it can stop the itchiness..the doctor say the itchiness is because the skin is dry so put this lotion to keep the skin moisturized. SO if not itchy then your niece won't scratch it.

Hope my advice helps. Do let me know if there are any changes. Take care.

Hi Eunice, sorry to hear about your niece's problems. Maybe you should consult a skin specialist to find the cause?

I use Bud's brand toiletries for my daughter. It's available at Caring pharmacy, maybe you could give it a try.
