Hi, I’m Khim, CareLine Advisor/dietitian from Danone Dumex. Our registered nurse has the explanation as below.

Nose picking would be completely harmless except:
i. Germs on the fingers can lead to small skin infections inside the nose, and fingers that have been in a nose are a great way to spread colds and flu.
ii. Nose picking may cause nose bleed especially when you have long fingernails
iii. It would be best to get your doctor’s advice to clear the congestion rather than picking his nose. Meanwhile, you can use a handkerchief or tissue to clean his nose

Hi, I'm Khim, CareLine Advisor/Dietitian from Danone Dumex. The following is the answer to your question by a registered nurse and midwife.

While eating cold things/drinks are not a cause of common colds, factors that may make your child more susceptible to catching a cold are;

i. He may be in close contact with other children in playschool/kindergarten
ii.He may not have developed a strong enough immune system against colds yet.
iii.He may be excessively tired, irritable, or have allergies with nose and throat symptoms.
iv.You may have pets at home

Some tips to prevent the common cold:
i.Try to keep a dust-free bedroom - clean often and keep bedding clean, dust off shelves, cupboards & window sills regularly.
ii.Teach your child what not to touch like his dirty shoes or playing with dirty linen.
iii.Encourage hand washing – teach him when and how to wash his hands
iv.Practice hygiene habit when he has a cold:
- Sneeze & cough into his arms.
- Cover his mouth with his hands when he cough otherwise he may spread germs to every surface of the room.
-Do not pick his nose
v.Make sure your child is eating a healthy balanced diet to enhance his immunity.

If you are worried, do visit your doctor.

Hi Hosk28, If that's the case, why don't you just avoid these foods for him? My paed once said that we should avoid the foods that cause the illness. Even if he wants it, then just limit the amount of serving..should be fine. Hope this helps.
