My son was admitted to hospital recently and was diagnosed as bronchitis. After he was discharged, the doctor suggested to give him the pneumococcal injection. Any comments from mothers out there?

I'm also considering giving the pneumococcal jab for my 3 month old baby boy. During our previous visit to the doctor at 2 months, he took his jabs and considering getting so many jabs at the same time seems stressful to my baby.
I'm thinking of spreading out or taking the pneumococcal jab perhaps later. Anyone planning to do the same?

The immunization schedule provided by MinYi is very useful. Does anyone have the estimated cost for each jab?
Friends suggested me to go to Klinik Kesihatan for free jab. Can we just walk-in to the Klinik Kesihatan?

Hi ChengMayLian, I’m Min Yi, CareLine Advisor/ Nutritionist from Danone Dumex. Our registered nurse from TL Care has some suggestion to you.

When a baby is born, she will be given BCG which protects her from tuberculosis. At the same time the first dose of HEPATITIS B will also be given.

When your girl reaches 2 months, her first dose of DPT, OPV and her second dose of HEPATITIS B will be given. (DPT, OPV protects her from Diptheria, pertussis, tetanus and poliomyelitis) She will also be given her first dose of HIP (Haemophilus influenzae) to protect her from pneumonia and meningitis.

At 3 months she will be given her second dose of DPT, OPV and second dose of HIP.

At 4 months she will be given her third dose of DPT, OPV and third dose of HIP.

At 5 months she will be given her third dose of HEPATITIS B.

When she reaches 1 year of age MMR (measles, mumps and rubella ) will be given .A booster dose of DPT and OPV will be given at age 1 ½ years.

This is the infant immunization schedule from the Ministry of Health. You can also get more information from the government website.

pneumococcal jab normally cost between RM280-300/jab. I found out 2 clinics in klang valley offer RM150/jab. Does anyone know what's the difference? According to the doc, it's the same but the price gab is too big

Toddlers normally need 4 doses of pneumococcal vaccine. For those mothers who miss the vaccine may ask Doctor advice as it depends on how old the child was when he or she receives the first dose.

Am also considering it, though it only protects from pneumococcal and there are so many other pathogens that may cause pneumonia. Is pneumococccal more prevalent in pneumonia affectin infants/toddlers? I really don't know.

Hi! My name is Sundra CareLine Advisor/Mum from Danone Dumex.I guess the suggested pneumococcal vaccine is to prevent subsequent infection to your child. Vaccines provide protection and are normally given at certain required age for children. So not to delay if you wish.
