How To Train your Child To Sleep On His/Her Own

Hi, I am Mei Rose, Danone Dumex Careline Advisor/Mum.

1. Put your child to bed when he/she is drowsy but still awake. Say good night and leave the room. If he/she starts to cry, let him/her cry for about 5 minutes. Then go into the room, comfort him/her briefly without picking him/her up, and leave.

2. If he/she cries again, wait 10 minutes before going in. Then increase the time interval by 5 minutes to 15 minutes the next time he/she cries (20 minutes, 25 minutes and so on) until he/she falls asleep. The reason for going in is to reassure your child that you still exist and to reassure yourself that he/she is okay.

3. Repeat the ritual with the same time intervals used at his/her bedtime every time he/she wakes in the night.

4. Each subsequent night, add an additional 5 minutes to the first interval for example the second night, start by waiting 10 minutes before going in. Then 15 minutes on the third night.

5. Eventually he/she will cry less each night and learn to sleep by himself/herself.

Thanks - will try it out. This can apply to younger baby including new born? As I thought new born baby normally can't see clearly yet but they can 'smell' whether you are near them?

My son 3 months old does not want to sleep well. He is always sleep for 30 minutes then wake up for about more than 1 hour. This happens through out full day (include night also). The enviroment is quite in my house.

good & interesting idea. i will definetly try on my babies. my doc said in early stage (during pregnancy) we can try to avoid taking caffein to avoid our babies to have sleeping problems as they grow.
