Still not having her teeth!

Hi all,

My baby girl is coming to 1 year old in a few days time but still not sprouting any teeth! Though, it's clinically proven that it's nothing to worry about... I'm just curious to know any parents out there who are or have had such experience?

Warm regards,
mamaAnne

Hi, I'm Sze Pinn, CareLine Advisor/ Nutritionist from Danone Dumex.

The average age for eruption of the first tooth (generally the lower central incisors – lower front teeth) is about the age of six to eight months. All babies develop at different rates – some babies’ teeth sooner while others later. You should therefore not be too overly concerned.

At around 6 months of age, babies begin to chew and teething may start. There are several signs that indicate your baby may be teething. These include dribbling, red patches on the cheek, bulging gum, crying, fussier, clingy behaviour, increase drooling, swollen, red, inflamed gum, poor appetite or interrupted sleep and some babies may also experience loose bowel movements. Usually the two lower front teeth are the first to appear, followed by the two upper front teeth.

Gently rub your baby’s gums with your finger. You may find it helpful to puree food during this time if teething is particularly painful for your baby. Rusk makes a good finger food when baby starts teething. Try giving your baby something other than food to chew on, such as firm, rounded toys (no sharp edges). Offer frequent sips of cool water which helps to soothe the gums.

As long as your baby is drinking the recommended quantity of breast milk (approximately 750ml to 1L per day) and eating some solid foods which are good sources of calcium (e.g. cheese and yoghurt), he is getting adequate amounts of calcium to meet his needs, for the development of strong bones and teeth.

If you are still concerned you may consult the doctor.

Hi,
No worries cos my son was also a late bloomer in growing teeth. He celebrated his 1st birthday toothless. his first tooth came out when he was 13 months or so and it was the upper tooth that came out first.Today he is 20 months. He has 2 lower teeth and 4 upper teeth plus his 2 inner molar in the midst of growing. He is quite a handful but other than that he is normal healthy boy!
