Hi, I am Sharon Lee, CareLine Advisor/ Dietitian from Danone Dumex.

A healthy diet is crucial to having a healthy pregnancy. Good nutrition is essential to ensure that a mother's body can give the unborn baby the nourishment he requires to develop and grow. So, weight loss diet is not suggested during pregnancy unless you have exceeded the recommended weight gain based on your pre-pregnant weight. You may refer to your doctor regarding your weight gain. You should have a healthy weight gain.

There is no increment in calorie requirement in the first trimester. However, pregnant women need to add about 360 kcal/day in the second trimester and 475 kcal/day in the third trimester. Strategically adding an extra nutritious snack with high fiber and nutrient dense food should be able to take care of your needs. In order to avoid exceeding the recommended weight gain during pregnancy, here are some diet tips:
1)Small and frequent meal. By having 6 meals per day is easier to control your weight instead of having 2 or 3 heavy meals per day. Eating a balanced diet now is more important than ever. So eat healthy - do not skip meals.

2)Practice low fat diet. Suggest consuming low fat milk product, lean meat, and fish. Cut down fried food intake. Practice healthy cooking method such as steam, boil, bake, or grill.

3)Cut down high sugary food or drink intake such as cordial, carbonated drink, sweet desserts. Fresh fruits, low fat milk and yogurt are your healthy choices if you crave for sweet.

4)Eat at least 3-5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily. Fruits and vegetables contain plenty of fiber and water and as a result they quickly fill your tummy up.

Breast-feeding mums often worry about eating a healthy diet. A nutritious diet for breast-feeding is similar to that for pregnancy. Breast-feeding requires an additional 450 calories per day - more than pregnancy requires. These calories should come from healthy, nutrient-dense foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and lean protein sources. Breast-feeding with healthy diet and active lifestyle can help you to loose weight.

If you have weight problems, you can consult your doctor or dietitian at hospital.
