I can still recall my fear when my second child, Malcolm had not started speaking by 3 plus. His sister, however, started her first words at the age of 8 month plus! Malcolm did utter his first words (papa, mama, che che) once when he was 1 ½ years old and that was it!

I still recall the day I found out I was pregnant. It was a Sunday morning and I had just taken my pregnancy test in my bathroom. I was ecstatic as the result was positive. When I was 3 months pregnant, I had a test and the test results sent a chill down my spine! I was told my baby had a 99% chance of having Down syndrome. I was in shock! Was this really happening to me?

The doctor suggested that I go for Ultrasound Screening. I could see my baby swimming in my womb. She looked like a mouse, active and so cute! I couldn’t imagine my baby with Down syndrome.

The doctor then suggested that I go through another Amniocentesis. That night,
