Reward with activities, not food
Foods are often used by parents as rewards to encourage their children to finish
up their food. For example, a parent may say to his child "eat up your vegetables
and you can have some ice cream later". This behaviour, according to experts, may
be counterproductive in the longrun, as it teaches children to refuse certain foods
so as to have whatever snack they want afterwards.
So, the next time your child refuses a food, DO NOT reward with his favourite snack.
Instead, offer to play a favourite game, or go somewhere special.
